“PROPER shelter” is needed for the people of Miltown Malbay trying to avail of public transport.

Miltown Malbay’s suitability for the upgrade of bus facilities will be reviewed by the road design office of Clare County Council.

It follows a motion by Cllr Liam Grant (GP) before the West Clare Municipal District that the town have a new bus stop and shelter installed.

Senior executive engineer in the roads and transportation department of Clare County Council, Anne O’Sullivan confirmed that a review on whether such a request was feasible would be initiated. “The provision of bus stops and bus shelters is a statutory function of the NTA, and the Road Design Office will liaise with the NTA team in relation to this request”.

She advised that the NTA coordinates the creation and implementation of bus shelter projects at the county level rather than through disjointed systems, working directly with local authorities. “This collaborative process is necessary as the installation of a bus shelter will frequently require preparatory works such as the upgrading of footpath and/or roads as well as the relocation of underground services”.

Lahinch based Cllr Grant stated, “It’s a great service and very important for people. Proper shelter is also needed there, I would love to see that happening if possible. And also, if there could be a timeline/timetable on show at the stop as well, it would be great for the village”.
