โ€œPROPER shelterโ€ is needed for the people of Miltown Malbay trying to avail of public transport.

Miltown Malbayโ€™s suitability for the upgrade of bus facilities will be reviewed by the road design office of Clare County Council.

It follows a motion by Cllr Liam Grant (GP) before the West Clare Municipal District that the town have a new bus stop and shelter installed.

Senior executive engineer in the roads and transportation department of Clare County Council, Anne Oโ€™Sullivan confirmed that a review on whether such a request was feasible would be initiated. โ€œThe provision of bus stops and bus shelters is a statutory function of the NTA, and the Road Design Office will liaise with the NTA team in relation to this requestโ€.

She advised that the NTA coordinates the creation and implementation of bus shelter projects at the county level rather than through disjointed systems, working directly with local authorities. โ€œThis collaborative process is necessary as the installation of a bus shelter will frequently require preparatory works such as the upgrading of footpath and/or roads as well as the relocation of underground servicesโ€.

Lahinch based Cllr Grant stated, โ€œItโ€™s a great service and very important for people. Proper shelter is also needed there, I would love to see that happening if possible. And also, if there could be a timeline/timetable on show at the stop as well, it would be great for the villageโ€.
