A FINAL DECISION on plans to make Waterpark House available as a public car park is to be made in March.

Clare County Council are proposing to create 136 car parking spaces on the grounds of Waterpark House, Drumbiggle Rd in Ennis.

All 136 spaces will only be available on weekends and public holidays. The car park will include 70 public parking bays and 52 for staff. Eight universal access spaces and six EV charging points are included in the plans. A

An open space to the front and side of Waterpark House will be where the parking area is developed while a section of the present parking infrastructure will be removed to allow for the provision of one large green area.

Bicycle stands are to be installed on the entrance to what was formerly the home of Ennis Town Council. Five existing spaces along the access road and Council depot will be converted to cycle parking.

According to a traffic and transport assessment lodged with the plans, during peak hours the car park is likely to handle 67 arrivals and 34 departures in the morning and 64 departures in the evening.

Addition of a pedestrian entrance and ramp on the current Drumbiggle Rd footpath will see the current entrance to Waterpark House widened.

Ancillary alterations to footpaths and the potential provision of a gym area also form part of the proposal.

Officials in Clare County Council have said the car park could be delivered as early as the first quarter of 2025.

Public submissions on the plans will be accepted until March 8th before a final decision is made in May.
