Lissycasey were crowned O’Gorman Cup champions for the fourth time on Saturday when they proved too strong for Ennistymon on Saturday evening.

Venue: Shanahan McNamara Memorial Park, Doonbeg

Two second half goals from Shane Griffin who delivered a man of the match performance saw the team bounce back from the disappointment of losing the Garry Cup decider a week earlier.

The early exchanges were evenly fought before the winners took a grip on proceedings and powered onto a six point interval lead when the score was 0-9 to 0-3.

A response from Ennistymon was expected after the break when they had the assistance of the wind but it was Lissycasey who continued to hold the upperhand and Griffin’s goals saw them extend their lead.

Griffin also contributed three points on the day while other point scorers included Conor and Enda Finnucane and Niall Kelly. The side was captained by Seamus Collins.

“”We were delighted to win particularly after the disappointment of losing the league final a week earlier. We trained on Wednesday evening after that loss and we had a meeting. We had a light training session on Friday evening and thankfully things went well for us on Saturday”, commented Lissycasey manager John Ryan.

Saturday proved to be a good day for Lissycasey as earlier in the afternoon the club collected the Division 7 league title with a 1-15 to 1-3 win over Corofin at the Banner grounds.

Jack Cahill was the team’s goalscorer while among the point scorers were Cathal Hill and Shane Culligan.

Former Limerick senior hurler and selector Brian Geary captained the team to this success and he was presented with the cup after the game by Clare GAA vice chairman Michael O’Connor.
