PUBS in Lahinch have began to turn away stag and hen parties.

It follows an incident in the past fortnight where a member of staff was reportedly injured by a drunken member of one visiting party.

Subsequent to this, a group of Lahinch publicans including the owners of The Nineteenth Bar and Frawleyโ€™s made an agreement not to let stag and hen parties into their premises with signs displayed on the entrances over the weekend advising that such groups would not be granted entry.

โ€œTo be honest Iโ€™m happy that we are starting to shake off the party central image, it has been damaging the resort for years,โ€ one business person in the locality told The Clare Echo.

Speaking at Mondayโ€™s meeting of the Clare Joint Policing Committee (JPC), Bill Slattery of the Lahinch Development Association outlined that a pact had been reached among certain vintners in the coastal town to deny entry to stag parties.

Slattery appealed to the Chief Superintendent, Seรกn Colleran to organise for two Gardaรญ to be actively on the beat in Lahinch. โ€œSince COVID, weโ€™ve had a different element of young drinkers, whatever has happened, they have come out with a bang, it doesnโ€™t look good for the villageโ€.

โ€œIโ€™m pleading with you, we need two Gardaรญ on duty, I know the barracks is closed and ye are stretched with resources but is very wrong to have a state of the art station closed. If any anti-social behaviour is happening, they have to be taken by van to Kilrush, we have a state of the art holding cell not being utilised. I know ye are stretched with resources,โ€ the former county councillor stated.
