CLARE are the Munster Junior camogie champions after recording a convincing ten point win over Waterford.

Clare 0-14
Waterford 0-04
Venue: Páirc Uí Rinn

Six scorers led by centre forward Shauna Canny did the damage in a dominant display for the Clare women who have tasted silverware at this grade for the first time since 2005, having threatened to make a breakthrough in recent seasons under the management of Tim McGrath and Ann Marie McGann.

McGann remains in the management as part of a ticket which is also over the senior cohort and is spear-headed by Conor Dolan and John Carmody.

Although Lucy Hogan pointed Waterford into the lead, once Clare settled with scores from Canny and Siobhán Lenihan they never looked back and held the advantage for the remainder of the contest. By the half-time juncture, the gap was seven points with Clare 0-09 0-02 in front.

They were in a comfortable position and were able to reshuffle the pack while limiting Waterford to two points in each half.

Ironically, Clare were away from home when they last won the provincial junior title. The 2005 side captained by Deirdre Murphy defeated Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds when they were managed by Mick Maher and the late Francie Mahon. The impressive Clare side went onto contest the All-Ireland decider only to lose to Dublin following a replay.

This time round, the captaincy was shared by Sinead Hogg and Kate O’Gorman with Kilkishen’s Kate also receiving the player of the match accolade.

Scorers for Clare: S Canny (0-7, 0-5 frees, 0-1 45), S Lenihan (0-3), A Hickey, E Casey, G Carmody and S O’Keeffe (0-1 each).

Scorers for Waterford: L Hogan (0-2 frees), N Murphy (45) and H Hayes (0-1 each).
