ONE MAN HAS DIED following a traffic collision involving two vehicles in Meelick.

Emergency services attended to the scene of a crash at the junction of Old Cratloe Rd and Woodcock Hill which occurred at approximately 10am on Thursday morning. The incident was about 100m on the Clare side of the border with Co Limerick.

A male passenger (late 40s) was fatally injured when the two car collision occurred. His body has been removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place in due course. The male driver (mid 20s) of the same vehicle was taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The male driver (late 60s) of the second vehicle was uninjured.

Gardaí, National Ambulance Service paramedics and units of the Limerick City and Fire Rescue Service responded to the incident. Following this, a section of the Cratloe to Limerick road between the Lower Meelick and Carrig Hill junctions were closed to allow for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to examine the scene. The road remains closed with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Old Cratloe Road or Woodcock Hill Road between 9.30am and 10am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
