Portumna Golf Club’s lady captain for the coming year Sharon Heenan pictured acknowledging Patricia Rowland who was the winner of the golfer of the year award.

After five weeks of competition the Autumn league at Woodstock has reached the matchplay stage which will involve the leading four teams.

Leading the way is Paul Coote’s team which includes Brendan McMahon, Fran Feighery and Chaye Kelly and they finished with 370.3.

In second spot with 364.9 points are Tony Neville (captain), Liam O’Connor, Eilis Neville and Steve Lahiffe.

They are followed in third spot by the team captained by Paul O’Brien which also includes Kieran and Brendan Quinn and Pat McMahon and they have 362.4 points. The fourth semi-final spot is filled by Paddy Meehan (captain), Eugene Conroy, Brian Kilker and Dickie Pyne and they had 359.7 points. Details of the matchplay games will be forwarded to those involved.

The final week’s competition in the league was a singles and was won by Paul Coote (10) who had 46 points. He won by two from Brian Logue (13) with third spot filled by Vincent McInerney (16) with 41 points. Pat McMahon (16) was fourth with 40 points while fifth spot was filled by Kieran Drummy (5) who also returned 40 points.

Meanwhile last week’s club singles was won by Vincent McInerney (16) with 41 points from Andrew Mason (8) with 40 points. There will be a club singles competition again this weekend.

Woodstock seniors played for their Christmas vouchers on Tuesday of this week when the competition was won by Ollie McNamara with 40 points.. Outgoing senior’s captain Brian Logue was second and he also scored 40 points while Tony Coote was third, also with 40 points.

Dromoland Golf Club:

Recently announced as the club captain for 2022, Jimmy McManus was the weekend ‘s 18 hole singles stableford competition winner at Dromoland with 42 points.

He had one to spare over Gerry McInerney with Ryan Enright a point further back in third spot with 40 points. John O’Shaughnessy was fourth with 39 points while Seamus Cusack won the gross with 37 points.

Mairead Toomey was the winner of the ladies turkey/wine/chocolate competition from Leslie O’Brien with Frances Bergin in third spot and all three had 20 points, one more that fourth placed Joan Ryan.

Kilrush Golf Club:

The weekly men’s singles competition at Kilrush was won by John Stapleton (14) with 31 points from Michael Miniter (10) with 29 and Dan Mulcahy (14) with 28 points.

Shannon Golf Club:

Last week’s 15 hole turkey challenge at Shannon was won by Gerard Begley (14) with 41 points. Steven Litherland (14) was second with 38 points followed by Peter Collins (20) with 37 points. Brian Downey (10) won the gross with 30 points.
