VISITING RESTRICTIONS remain in place at Ennis Hospital following an outbreak of COVID-19.

Restrictions are in place on the Burren Ward of Ennis Hospital, visitors are not permitted into the ward as a precautionary measure since the outbreak only if visiting confused or critically unwell patients. Visits to other areas of the hospital continue as normal.

A spokesperson for UL Hospitals Group outlined, “We regret any inconvenience these restrictions cause for patients on the Burren Ward and for their loved ones. An outbreak control team has convened, and hospital management has decided that it is necessary to impose the measures in the interests of patient safety and keeping essential services open for all patients”.

Prof Brian Lenehan, Chief Clinical Director of UL Hospitals Group said the design of Ennis Hospital makes it very effective to respond to outbreaks. “We manage all outbreaks very proactively, we are very fortunate that Ennis has single room facility which makes it easier to manage it, we are not having to isolate patients because they are all isolated by the virtue of single rooms”.
