Status Red Weather Warning

COUNTY Clare is among six counties under a Status Yellow wind warning issued by Met Éireann today.

The wind warning is in place for Clare, Galway and Mayo until 9pm, with very strong southwest winds veering west to northwest expected.

Met Éireann said winds will be strongest in coastal areas. “Very strong southwest winds veering west to northwest are expected on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Winds will be strongest at the coast with some severe gusts along with a possibility of wave overtopping. Hazardous driving conditions are expected in exposed areas.”

Met Éireann has also warned that southwest winds, veering west to northwest will increase to gale force 8 on all Irish coastal waters. A separate Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo is in effect until 6am tomorrow morning, as very strong southwest winds are forecast. A similar warning is in place in Armagh, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone issued by the UK Met Office.
