TWO PUBLIC consultation sessions take place in North and West Clare this week ahead of the return of the Burren & Cliffs Explorer.

Linking towns and villages with visitor attractions throughout north and west Clare, the shuttle bus service is the subject of public consultation and engagement sessions taking place in Miltown Malbay Community Centre on Wednesday, April 22, and The Burren Visitor Centre in Kilfenora on Thursday, April 23, with both sessions running from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

The shuttle bus service is set to commence this year on Thursday, May 21 and will run until Sunday, September 20. It will serve Ballyvaughan, Corofin, Carron, Kilfenora, Doolin, Liscannor, and Lahinch, as well as Lisdoonvarna and Miltown Malbay. The scheduled service will also connect passengers with key attractions including the Burren National Park and the Cliffs of Moher Experience. New for this year is the inclusion of Ennistymon and Spanish Point.

Representatives of the Cliffs of Moher Experience, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, Clare County Council, Fáilte Ireland and National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will attend the consultation sessions to provide additional information and answer questions.

Launched in 2025 by Clare County Council in partnership with the NPWS and with support from Fáilte Ireland, the service will once again operate as a pilot project.

Siobhán McNulty, Director of Service with Clare County Council, said, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Explorer offers flexible and convenient transportation that enables locals and visitors to experience the region’s natural and cultural attractions at their own pace. “Tourism and sustainable transport in the wider North Clare area must continue to reflect the views of local communities, which is why we are seeking the public’s input on the roll‑out of the shuttle service for 2026”.

NPWS Midwest Manager, William Cormacan, added, “We are delighted to partner with Clare County Council again in developing this sustainable initiative, which connects visitors and locals with the stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity of north and west Clare. This pilot project aligns with our commitment to preserving Ireland’s natural heritage while enhancing access to iconic sites like the Burren National Park. We encourage the community to join us at the upcoming consultation sessions to share their insights and help ensure this service meets the needs of both residents and visitors.”

Clare County Council and NPWS are inviting residents, businesses, and key stakeholders to share their views to help shape the future of the initiative.

Individuals interested in attending the consultation sessions are asked to register in advance via the online form at cliffsofmoher.ie.
