GARDAÍ are warning of traffic delays in and around Lahinch this weekend as up to 8,000 spectators are expected to attend the Walker Cup at Lahinch Golf Club each day.

The event is sold out and will take place on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6.

Gardaí said intermittent temporary traffic stops will be in place on the Liscannor Road in the mornings and afternoons to facilitate the tournament.

On Saturday, September 5, traffic stops will take place between 9am and 10.30am and again from 2.50pm to 4.30pm.

On Sunday, September 6, the stops will be in place from 8.50am to 9.50am and from 2.20pm to 4.50pm.

Motorists are advised to avoid the Liscannor Road during these times.

Gardaí said traffic restrictions will be kept to the minimum required and the impact on the public is expected to be localised and minimal.

However, road users have been warned to expect higher volumes of pedestrians than normal in the Lahinch area.

The lower level of the beach promenade car park will be closed until Wednesday, September 9.

The upper level of the beach car park and coach parking area, Liscannor Road car park and Miltown Malbay Road car park will remain open to members of the public.

There is signposted parking for those attending the Walker Cup at Lahinch Sportsfield or allocated reserved parking.

Coaches attending the event should use the Lahinch bus stop for drop-off and pick-up before following signage to the coach waiting area at Ennistymon Community School.

Gardaí said they continue to liaise with event organisers and Clare County Council and will be on duty throughout the weekend to assist the public.
