CLARE HAD great success at the All-Ireland juvenile A handball finals at Croke Park last weekend, bringing home three gold and one silver from four finals.

All-Ireland titles came to the Banner in under 16 singles (Sean Considine), under 15 doubles (Charlie Collins and Sean McGee) and under 14 doubles (Daniel Madden and Cillian Howard).

Considine defeated Kilkenny in the semi-final Saturday and then Tyrone on Sunday. The 15 doubles defeated Wexford in the semi-final and Leitrim in the final while the under 14 doubles defeated Kilkenny in semi-final and Tyrone in the final.

The under 16 girls had defeated Kilkenny in the semi-final before losing in a tie break to Tyrone in Final.

Also in action over the weekend were Tara Lucas who lost out to Kilkenny in the under 16 semi-final and Paddy Sweeney who also lost to Kilkenny opposition in the under 17 semi-final.

Results:

U16 singles – Sean Considine (Clooney-Quin,) dft Kilkenny (Shane Doyle) 21-09, 21-13 in the semi-final and he beat Aaron McElhone(Tyrone) 21-04, 21-16 in the final

U15 doubles – Charlie Collins and Sean McGee (Tuamgraney and Clooney-Quin, dft Wexford (Luke Banville, Paddy Goggins) 15-06, 15-04. They then beat (Maxim Gilmartin & Daniel Kane, Leitrim) 15-06, 15-02 in the final

U14 doubles – Daniel Madden and Cillian Howard (Tuamgraney,) dft Kilkenny (Stephen McCormack, Cory Hogan) 15-07, 12-15, 15-12 in the semi-final and they then accounted for (Tiarnan Kelly, Cahir Mullan, Tyrone) 15-09, 15-07 in the final.

U16 singles Semi-Final – Kilkenny(Niamh Drennan) dft Tara Lucas(Toonagh,) 21-08, 21-07

U17 singles Semi-final – Kilkenny(Rian Dowling) dft Paddy Sweeney(Clarecastle, Clare) 21-20, 21-09

Cumann na mBuncoil:

The Cumann na mBunscoil competition had the largest entry yet with fifteen schools entered in U11 and sixteen in U13.

In the U11 doubles Scoil na Mainstreach, Quin (Patrick Shally and TJ McMahon) defeated Kilkishen N.S (Sean Neville and Sean Collins). Quin were also winners in the U11 singles with John MacDonnacha defeating Clonmoney N.S Jack Kirby.

In the U13 doubles Quin continued in winning form with Gearóid MacDonnacha and Jack McMahon defeating Ogonnelloe N.S. Jack Sheedy and Eoin Hogan.

Bodyke N.S. with Iarla Kelleher was the winner in singles defeating CLonmoney’s Eliah Kenny.

Girls U11 and 13 grades will take place during this week and Clare winners will go to Munster competition March 23 in Nenagh and Silvermines, Tipperary.
