49% of the electorate in the Ennis Municipal District spoke and voted on who they wanted to serve as their representatives on Clare County Council.

Consequences of this vote are discussed on the latest episode of The Electoral Chair.

Páraic McMahon is joined by two former Mayors of Clare, Patrick Keane (FF) and Patricia McCarthy (IND) plus former councillor Paul Bugler (FG).

Elected to serve on the next Council term in the Ennis MD are Cllr Pat Daly (FF), Cllr Mary Howard (FG), Cllr Paul Murphy (FG), Cllr Antoinette Baker Bashua (FF), Cllr Tommy Guilfoyle (SF), Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) and Cllr Tom O’Callaghan (FF).

On the agenda:

  • Can pro Ennis 2040 councillors feel emboldened.
  • GMA used as a slush fund for votes.
  • Low profile Independents.
  • Fianna Fáil’s big win in electing four.
  • Fine Gael’s big loss in giving away a seat.
  • Lack of time excuse from Fine Gael on finding replacement for Johnny Flynn not credible.
  • There’s always willing candidates.
  • Pragmatic vote but not a ringing endorsement for Sinn Féin and Tommy Guilfoyle.
  • Parking still a problem in Ennis.
