CLONLARA village’s chances of “a significant upgrade” have been dented.

An application was made for the centre of Clonlara village under the town and village renewal project but no funding was issued for the South-East Clare location under the latest announcement at the beginning of the month.

Provision of an overlay on “a short section of the access road” from Clonlara village junction to Glór na Srutha was sought by Cllr Michael Begley (IND). He highlighted that it was “breaking up and subsiding, particularly over the sewerage line”. Begley said half of the width of the road was dug up when for a sewerage scheme, “the whole thing is subsiding, it is potholing and holding water”. He was supported by Cllr John Crowe (FG).

In response to his motion before the Shannon Municipal District, senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett advised that substantive works were dependent on Clonlara securing funds for a renewal project in the town and village renewal scheme. He confirmed that remedial works were completed to repair the area requested.
