SERIOUS INCIDENTS involving players, coaches and supporters have no place in the Clare District Soccer League (CDSL).
Following the conclusion of her first term as Secretary of the CDSL, Carolann McDonald paid tribute to all involved with soccer in the county but noted that the game has been damaged by “serious incidents” to have occurred.
Success of all clubs on and off the field was lauded by the Shannon woman who also thanked her colleagues on the CDSL Committee and club officers for their “tireless efforts”.
Apologies were issued by Munster FA’s Barry Cotter for his absence from Monday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the CDSL.
Flan Hehir played a big role “in helping me transition to the role,” McDonald noted. She paid “sincere thanks” to departing Registrar Nigel Bradish, “he has served for many seasons and has done a tremendous job, his efforts and support greatly appreciated by clubs”.
David O’Grady who stepped down as Fixtures Secretary following one season was ‘committed and dedicated’ with “tireless efforts working with clubs and referees,” she noted. “This position often does not receive the recognition or appreciation it deserves. At times, difficult decisions have to be made and it is not possible to satisfy everyone. Members offer their time freely for the benefit of soccer in Clare, appreciation and understanding from all involved goes a long way”.
Reflecting on the season, the Shannon Olympic clubwoman commented, “thjere was some serious and unnecessary incidents involving players, coaches and supporters, there is no place for such behaviour in the CDSL, actions of this nature damages the reputation of clubs, our league and county as a whole, clubs have responsibility that players, coaches and supporters conduct themselves in an appropriate manner at all times”.
Clubs are expected to ensure their coaches and officials have their Garda vetting forms updated on FAI Connect, McDonald said. She said no coach is allowed to be in the technical area unless they are “properly vetted”.
