WEST CLARE needs to have a series of pull-in locations developed, a county councillor has claimed.

Creation of pull-in locations at Tarmon East, the L-6052 and L-6052-15 roads was requested by Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) at a recent meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.

In response to the Fianna Fáil representative’s motion, senior executive engineer in the West Clare MD Alan Kennelly pointed out that although the L-6052 is a narrow local road, it is unexpectedly often utilised by heavy farm machinery and HGVs.

He acknowledged, “The provision of pull-in lay-by’s on the road would enhance road and traffic safety and protect existing roadside drainage. The West Clare MD will examine the road with a view to placing lay-bys in feasible locations”.

Cllr Murphy commented, “effectively what’s happening is these lorries are heading down long routes, and we have nowhere for them to pull in. I think identifying three or four areas where we pipe areas for them to pull in, that’s what we should look at. So, if we could just find a couple of locations, and I appreciate the response”.
