Parishes across the Diocese of Killaloe have been reminded that no First Holy Communion or Confirmation ceremonies are to take place during the months of May and June.

On Tuesday, Bishop Fintan Monahan contacted parishes within the Diocese to advise them that no Sacraments of Confirmation or First Holy Communion are permitted to take place in May or June as per current guidelines surrounding COVID-19.

A senior officer within the HSE made contact with the Bishop on Tuesday morning to emphasis the importance of no ceremonies taking place due to high rates of infection in the Mid-West, predominantly in Co Limerick.

In his correspondence, Bishop Monahan discouraged parishes from setting dates until further advice is forthcoming.

“They are clear that great efforts are being made in relation to the Church ceremonies but it is afterwards with the gatherings that dangers are arising. They further made the point that many of the parents of the children involved are still awaiting vaccination and it would be very much prudent to wait until that happens,” he said of the advice from the HSE.
