A BEND on the N85 west of Inagh village is to be reviewed following concerns about repeated crashes and damage to roadside barriers and a bridge.

The issue was raised by Cllr Shane Talty (FF) at the September meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.

Cllr Talty called on TII to install additional roadside barriers on the bend, where the existing vehicle restraint system was recently damaged.

In a written response, Senior Executive Engineer for West Clare MD Tony Neville said the location would be reviewed in conjunction with the council’s Transportation Section.

He said the bridge and existing vehicle restraint system had been damaged recently and confirmed that the request for additional barriers would be included in the review.

The works would be carried out directly by TII, he said.

TII will also assess the condition of the road surface as part of the review.

Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Talty said there had been a crash at the location in August which damaged the barrier.

He said another crash occurred the day after he submitted his motion, resulting in further damage to the bridge.

Cllr Talty said people living in a nearby cottage were “worried” about the situation.

He also welcomed the planned assessment of the road surface.

Cllr Bill Slattery (FG) seconded the motion.
