LISSYCASEY secured their place in the quarter-final of the Clare senior football championship with a hard earned but merited nine point win over St Breckans.

While the winners were never behind, the result was in doubt for much of the game with the winners second goal, six minutes from the end of normal time, finally killing off the St Breckans challenge.
A relegation battle awaits St Breckans who will face off with either Cratloe or Kilmihil.
Lissycasey had the better of the early exchanges but this wasn’t reflected on the scoreboard as they failed to capitalise on some good opportunities.
Niall Kelly opened their account with a good point in the first minute and three minutes later Shane Griffin broke through for a goal.
Lissycasey continued to have the better of matters but the next score didn’t come until the end of the opening quarter and it fell to St Breckans with Jamie Stack landing a two pointer having missed two earlier two point attempts.
Lissycasey responded with three unanswered points but from here on the Spa had their fair share of possession and when the half time whistle sounded just a point separated the sides with the score at 1-5 to 0-7.
Lissycasey again made the better start when play resumed after the break landing the opening three points and by the fiftieth minute they led 1-11 to 0-9.
Shane Griffin’s goal, after he was put through by Aaron Griffin put them eight clear but St. Breckans weren’t giving in and they were unlucky not to have found the net a minute later, Thomas Collins making a fine save before substitute Eoin Byrne’s effort was cleared off the line.

Thomas Collins, Ryan Griffin, Darragh Killeen, Connor Meaney, Diarmuid McMahon and Shane Griffin were prominent for the winners while Cian Burke, Jack Sheedy, Colm O’Brien, Donnacha O’Dwyer and Jamie Stack did well for St Breckans.
