A knife attack in Newmarket-on-Fergus resulted in two men being hospitalised in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 6am, emergency services were notified of the incident. Two men sustained non life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

A number of individuals were in the house located on the Ballycar Rd at the time when the dispute broke out.

Gardaí have gathered “significant investigative leads”. Members of the public with information are asked to contact Shannon Garda Station on 061365900.

Speaking to The Clare Echo, Cllr Pat McMahon (FF) felt the actions of a minority of the parish’s population should not taint it’s overall reputation. “The people of Newmarket-on-Fergus are ordinary decent people. Trying to get through life is tough enough with people getting trying to get their children educated, hold job’s down and get a house, they have all aspirations. This scenario from a tiny minority of troublemakers cannot bring onerous negativity on the parish, it should not reflect on the people of Newmarket high up or low down”.
