Patsy Kett winner of the East Clare Golf Club President’s Prize with John Duffy Club President.

East Clare golf club President John Duffy’s prize was played for on Sunday when Patsy Kett emerged as the winner with 43 points.

He had one to spare over Paul Madden and they were followed by Teddy O’Hanlon with 40 points while fourth placed Damian Keniry also scored 40 points. Ronan Hayes won the gross.

The category winners were Michael Rochford with 38 points, Tony Duggan with 39 points and Eddie Bourke with 38 points.

The past president prize was won by Redmond Walsh, the longest drive by David McLoughlin and the nearest the pin prize by Enda Quinlan.

Batt Skehan won the president’s prize to the senior men from Ger Shortt with Seamus O’Dwyer in third place. The longest drive in this group was won by Pat Duggan while Willie Roche was nearest the pin with the visitor’s prize going to Pat O’Brien.

Rachel Whelan won the president’s prize to the ladies with 41 points from Marie Donnellan with 37 points. Ursula Hogan was third with 36 points followed by Margaret McNamara with 33 points. Siobhan Shanahan won the gross with 16 points.

The category winners were Evelyn Skehan with 32 points Celia Moloney with 30 oints and Mary Farrell with 35 points. Rachel Whelan had the longest drive and Carmel Lenihan was nearest the pin while the get into golf category was won by Evelyn O’Brien.

The winners of the ladies Wednesday competition were Pauline Nugent, Ursula Hogan and Breda McCarthy from Mary Hogan and Mary Brennan with third spot filled by Joan Kinsella, Siobhan Mulcahy and Mary Jo Minogue.

In last week’s senior men’s competition the winners were Danny Minogue, J,J. Barton and Michael Moloney from Noel Earley, Jim Fahey and Paddy O, Brien with third spot filled by Pat Duggan, John Nihill and Ted Harrington.

Shannon Golf Club:

President Aidan Mannix’ prize to the ladies at Shannon was won by Emma O’Halloran (20) with 71 nett.

In second place, a stroke back, was the club’s lady captain Debbie Reddan (16) while the gross was won by Laura O’Brien (9) with 84.

The category winners were Jane Kennedy (14) with 74, Carmel Regan (23) with 74 and Anna Corry (33) with 82 while the 9 hole winner was Dee O’Connell (19) with 19 points.

A first for Lahinch:

The boys Inter-club team won Lahinch Golf Club’s first ever Junior All-Ireland pennant in Castletroy on last week. Led by Kevin Glynn, Johnny Reynolds, Shane Carey and Donal McSweeney the boys won the competition by two points. The players who made up the victorious panel are Ben Lyne, Matthew Braja, Ciaran Hennigan, Cathal McNulty and Niall Kelly.

After a thrilling victory in the quarter finals on Tuesday, the Fred Daly team were beaten by Portrush in the semi finals on Wednesday morning. This marked the end of a historic run for the team, after winning the club’s first Junior Munster West pennant. The team members were Gabriel Considine, Danny Lyne, Bob Casey, Mikie McMahon and Jack Clarke.

Meanwhile, the Greg Young Memorial Trophy over 50 competition will be played for on this Friday and Saturday

Kilrush Golf Club:

Jim Kelly (25) won the Saint Gobain open men’s competition at Kilrush at the weekend with 45 points.

Derek Garvey (12) won category 1 with 41 points from Nevan Prendeville (10) with 40 points.

Liam Williams (14) was the winner of category 2 with 36 points from John McGrath (12) with 35 points.

Category 3 was won by Matthew Dillon (25) with 43 points from Aeneas O’Connor (22) with 41 points.

The front 9 was won by Martin P Brennan (22) with 19 points while Tom O’Dea (40) won the back 9 with 22 points.

Last week’s ladies competition was won by Anne Gallagher (11) with 35 points from Marion Brennan (27) with 33 points with third spot filled by Martina Walsh (24) 33 points followed by Anna Moody (18) with a similar score.

The category winners were Margaret Donnelly (20) with 31 points, Edel Crowley (26) with 32 points and Joanne Haffey (52) with 33 points.

The 12 hole competition was won by Olivia McCarthy with 24 points from Ann McMahon with 21 points.

Woodstock Golf Club:

Kieran Dromey (10) was the winner of the weekend club singles stableford competition at Woodstock with 43 points while tony Nugent (4) won the gross with 38 points.

Category 1 was won by Michael Reen (4) with 38 points from Jack Joyce (6) with 36 points.

Frankie Garrihy (11) won category 2 with 42 points from Frank Landy (18) with a similar score while category 3 was won by Mike Liddy (20) with 41 points.

The open singles continues on this Thursday while the club championship, a golfer of the year strokeplay competition, will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Ennis Golf Club:

The final competition in the 2023 golfer of the year order of merit at Ennis took place last weekend and resulted in T.J Scanlan being crowned the cub’s golfer of the year.

Sunday’s stroke competition was won by Michael O’Reilly (26) with 67 and he had a shot to spare over T.J. Scanlan (10). In third place, a shot further back, was Joe Carmody (17) followed by Cian O’Nolan (18) with 70.

In the stableford competition for the non masters qualifiers the winner was Martin Moroney (18) with 42 points followed by Dermot Doheny (5) with 38 points while Alfred Jones won he gross with 33 points.

Jason Woods (10) won the Friday open singles with 41 points from Gerard Connellan (17) with 36 with third spot filled by Donagh Stack (11) with 36 points.

Last week’s senior men’s team of three scramble was won by Pat Murphy, Terry Hughes and Michael Kerin with 46.1 from John McNamara, Tom Gallery and Liam Roche with 47.3. In third spot with 48.9 were Richard O Connell, Sean Fitzpatrick and Michael Torpey followed by James Corcoran, Eamon Kelly and Larry Parks on 49.6. Fifth spot was filled by Liam Pyne, Gerry Kelly and Michael Neylon with 49.9 followed by Jarlath O Halloran, William Donnellan and Paul Kenny on 50 which was the same score returned by Pat P McInerney, Jim Quinn and P J Hehir.

Last week’s Tuesday fourball was won by Peter Quinn and Senan Ryan with 35 points from Johnny Kearse and Matt Flynn with 34 points. In third pace with 31 points were Jarlath O’Halloran and Paul Mockler followed by Pat Cuddy and Tommy Timpson with a similar score and they were one ahead of Michael Meagher and Enda Burns.

Last week’s senior ladies competition at Ennis was won by Brid Cunningham. Eileen Daly and Mary McMaahon with 50.19 from Ann Kelly, Geraldine O’Mahony and Maeve 0’Grady with 50.45. In third spot with 53 were Carmel Verling, Gert Finn and Maureen Maloney.

This weekend’s competition will be the NBCRI gent’s fourball betterball and this will be followed a week later by the club classic, a team of four (any combination).
The competition on September 23 and 24 will be the Cancer Alliance fundraiser followed a week later by the men’s hampers competition.

Gort Golf Club:

The Josie McInerney trophy, an 18 hole singles stableford competition, sponsored by the McInerney family was played for at Gort at the weekend when Fergal Conway (33) emerged as the winner with 43 points.

Category 1 was win by Paul Smith (10) with 38 points, category 2 by Frank Higgins (19) with 42 points and category 3 by Andy Murphy (20) with 38 points. The gross was won by Joe Moran (3) with 35 points.

The Friday open singles was won by Joe Moran (3) with 39 points while the category winners were Paul Smith (10) with36 points, Robert Duffy (18) Cregmore Park golf club with 36 points and Brendan Hutchinson (27) Athenry golf club with 36 points.

Last week’s ladies singles competition was won by Sinead O Connor (34) with 37 points. The category winners were Shauna Burke (15) with 35 points, Anne Connolly (22) with 41 points, Fran O Reilly (36) with 34 points and Bernadette Burke (47) with 27 points.
