Maintenance work is to be undertaken in Parteen following complaints that “major flooding” was linked to blocked drains in the South Clare village.

A survey of Parteen village was completed by Shannon Municipal District staff in the past month. “The current difficulties (were) noted,” senior executive engineer Aidan O’Rourke outlined. He confirmed that maintenance work would be completed in the coming weeks.

It followed a motion by Cllr John Crowe (FG) which flagged that shores and drains were blocked in Parteen. “Due to the grass growing up through these drains it is causing major flooding in the area”.

Speaking at a meeting of the Shannon MD, Cllr Crowe said of the drains, “the grass is growing up through them, there needs to be a big job done”. The proposal for the commencement of works was seconded by Cllr Michael Begley (IND).
