Clare broadcasters, Siofra Mulqueen, Ruth Smith and John Cooke took home gold at the IMRO Radio Awards.

Barefield’s Siofra Mulqueen who has recently departed Newstalk to take up a reporter’s role with The Business on RTÉ presented by Richard Curran. Her report ‘Moyross – The Forgotten Park of Limerick’ which aired on Newstalk’s Pat Kenny show took home gold in the Community and Social Action category.

John Cooke was the gold winner as News Reporter of the Year, the Ennis based RTÉ journalist held off stiff competition from his colleague and Ennis native Brian O’Connell who received the silver award.

Ruth Smith who is based in Feakle and presents ‘Simply Folk’ on RTÉ Radio One saw her show take the top prize in the Specialist Music Programme category. Sixmilebridge native Marie Crowe was shortlisted for the Sports Broadcaster of the Year.

Clare FM won the bronze award for local station of the year with WLR FM and Radio Kerry taking the gold and silver respectively. It is the third year on the trot that Clare FM has been placed in the top three local stations in Ireland.
