SEMI-FINAL pairings have been confirmed for the concluding stages of the senior, intermediate and junior football championships.
Of the four quarter-finals in the TUS Clare SFC, there were three exciting encounters where a kick of the ball separated teams from a spot in the last four and exiting the championship.
Champions Éire Óg had the most one-sided of the quarter-final encountersa when defeating St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield by twelve points in what was a repeat of last year’s final.
To return to the final they will have to overcome St Joseph’s Miltown for the second time this year. The sides met in the third round when they were both qualified for the knockout stages but it still finished 1-22 0-12 for Éire Óg to claim top spot in Group 1.
Since then Miltown overcame Ennistymon after extra time while they will hope to have a stronger card to pick from when taking on the champions.
Facing off in the other semi-final are two unbeaten sides, Kildysart and Kilmurry Ibrickane who topped Group 2 and 3 respectively before accounting for Lissycasey and Doonbeg in the quarter-finals.
Neither side has met in the senior championship since Kildysart’s promotion after winning the second tier in 2022.
Shocks aplenty occurred in the Clare IFC where Clondegad and Cooraclare were dumped out by Naomh Eoin and Kilrush Shamrocks. Wolfe Tones overcame Killimer and Banner defeated Shannon Gaels.
There will be a repeat of the 2024 intermediate decider when Naomh Eoin and Wolfe Tones renew rivalries while for the first time the Banner and Kilrush Shamrocks will meet in the semi-finals, the sides faced off in the third round when the Ennis side overcame the Shams 1-22 2-13.
Promotion to the intermediate is the focus for the four teams left in the Junior A championship. Clondegad are the only second team left standing and they have been drawn against O’Currys who are keen to return to the second tier at the first attempt. The other side of the draw pits a high-flying Parteen/Meelick against St Senan’s Kilkee.
