CLARE HURLER DAVID FITZGERALD has been named as the as the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month for March.

Inagh/Kilnamona’s Fitzgerald was Clare’s standout player as they claimed the Allianz National Hurling League title for the first time since 2016 when defeating Kilkenny in the final a month ago. He scored 2-16 during the course of the competition.

Fitzgerald scored 0-5 from play during Clare’s fourth round win over Kilkenny in Cusack Park and 1-3 in the semi-final against Tipperary, the green flag quelling the potential of a revival from the Premier County.

In the final against Kilkenny, he scored a crucial goal at the beginning of the second half and the Inagh native also had the assist for his clubmate Aidan McCarthy’s green flag in their 3-16 1-20 win.

Derry’s Eoin McEvoy received the PwC GAA/GPA Footballer of the Month while Aimee Mackin (Armagh) and Eimear McGrath (Tipperary) are the March winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month Awards for ladies football and camogie respectively.

Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner, PwC Ireland, said, “On behalf of everyone at PwC, I want to give our warmest congratulations to Aimee, Eimear, David and Eoin on being named the March Player of the Month Winners. March saw some incredibly competitive games across the leagues, making it all the more impressive that our winners stood out with their performances. Each player is more than deserving of this award for their outstanding contributions to their teams in their respective finals.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns commented; “Well done to all four award winners – Aimee, Eimear, David and Eoin. The consistency of your performances was hugely important to your team and these awards will come as a surprise to few.

GPA CEO Tom Parsons stated, “They have rightly been recognised by their fellow players, something that makes these awards extra special”. He singled out the work of GAA President Burns during his first month in the role, “Jarlath, the respect you showed in celebrating the inter-county game and its players in the presentations of the league trophies was very welcome. We look forward to working with you on both the player of the month awards and the PwC All-Stars during your time as GAA President”.

The PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month and PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month Award winners are voted for by the GPA’s membership.
