Crusheen claim first league win at Clarecastle’s expense

Crusheen 2-19
Clarecastle 1-20
Venue: Crusheen

A strong finish which yielded five unanswered points inside the last ten minutes steered Crusheen to their first win in this season’s Clare cup race when they overcame Clarecastle at Crusheen on Sunday.

Behind by five points at the break they can count themselves a little fortunate not to be trailing by more at his stage as the visitors had enjoyed the better of the opening quarter at the end of which they were a goal ahead, Colin Brigdale’s major the difference.

By half time, the Magpies had extended their lead to five with the score now at 1-11 to 0-9. This they had achieved despite being reduced to fourteen men in the 21st minute when David Tuohy was shown a straight red card following an off the ball incident with Oisin O’Donnell.

Rory O’Connell’s point in the first minute of the new half extended their lead to six but then Crusheen stepped up a gear and hit 1-2 in five minutes, the goal coming from Jamie Fitzgibbon, to move to within a point of their opponents.

Points were then exchanged before Oisin O’Donnell, from a tight angle, found the net to put the home side into the lead for the first time.

Two Evan Price points levelled the tie before points were swapped twice leaving the teams level at the three quarter stage.
