Following on from her success with the Lahinch Ladies Senior Cup team, Aideen Walsh received an invitation to compete at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.

Dromoland Castle Golf and Country Club will host the European Tour event from September 22nd to 25th.

Aideen joins a field that includes LPGA winner Leona Maguire, defending champion and former Major winner, Catriona Matthew and 2022 Scandinavian Mixed winner, Linn Grant. Tickets for the KPMG Women’s Irish Open are on sale online at www.womensirishopen.ie

An Irish international golfer, Aideen will be Sports Direct’s Ambassador for the tournament. She has also partnered with the new ‘Get A Grip’ campaign as part of the launch.

She said the return of the Women’s Irish Open was “very exciting”. She added, “I’m only playing golf about 12 years so I never really had an Irish Open to look up to but I hope that something like this, if we can push on and make it a really good tournament for the younger Irish girls coming through, like 13, 14, 15 years that are really talented, it’s only right that they have something to they can aspire to in the future, a home professional event”.

Meanwhile, Lahinch men’s club championship (John Burke Trophy), which was due to take place last weekend but had to be deferred due to the participation of the Men’s Senior Cup team in the All-Ireland finals, has been rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September. The lowest 21 handicap players will play off the blue tees and all other members will play off the white tees.

Kyle Cannon, Operations Manager at Lahinch, is leaving to take up the role of General Manager at Woodbrook Golf Club. Kyle joined Lahinch Golf Club in February 2019 and, over the intervening three and a half years, he has made a significant contribution to the running of the Club.

Kyle also played a significant role in operational, management and other projects which have contributed to the continued growth and success of the club. Kyle will finish his duties on Friday (September 16th) before commencing his new position the following Monday.
