30 homes are to be constructed in a €7.7m social housing development in Ennistymon.

Approval is to be issued by the Department of Housing today for the major social housing development in North Clare.

Minster for Housing, Darragh O’Brien (FF) is to sign off on the approval in principle (AIP) for the €7.7m development which will consist of thirty homes at Glen North, Ennis North in Ennistymon. This includes one five-bedroom house, one four-bedroom house, eight three-bedroom houses and twenty two-bedroom houses, two of which are specially adapted units.

Clare County Council is to be informed later today of the Department signing off on the development with the local authority to oversee the project from there including the tendering process.

“This is a massive boost for those living in Ennistymon and the surrounding areas,” Clare TD, Cathal Crowe (FF) stated. “I know from the mountain of queries that come into my office on a weekly basis that a lack of available housing remains one of the biggest issues in Clare”.

Deputy Crowe outlined that many families will be housed when the development is completed. “I am particularly glad to see that North and West Clare are not being forgotten about; there is of course a development in the works for Quilty too. He is hopeful the project will commence quickly.
