ADDITION of a filter light to improve traffic flow at the Clare Road in Ennis are to be considered.

Installation of a filter right arrow on the traffic light adjacent to the Clare Road Tyre Centre was requested by Cllr Pat Daly (FF) “to accommodate traffic coming from the Limerick Road side who presently are finding it very difficult to turn right in the Gaol Road”.

Executive engineer in the Ennis Municipal District, Ian Chaplin outlined that two hatch boxes were recently installed at the junction “to assist access from Clare Road Tyres and the hatch box at the Captain Macs Cross side of the junction should assist the traffic flow as buses will not be obstructed when turning left out of Old Goal Road”.

Chaplin confirmed that the Ennis MD are discussing the proposed filter light with the Road Design Office “so as divers coming from Captain Macs Cross are certain that the oncoming traffic has stopped and it is safe to turn right into Old Goal Road”.

“I see it and experience it on a daily basis with the hold-backs from Captain Macs cross and traffic from Darcy’s Corner,” Cllr Daly outlined. He flagged that drivers are finding it “very difficult to turn right”.

Daly added, “a filter light will allow people to get onto Gaol Rd which is a great piece of infrastructure which brings you onto shopping centres and so forth. I hope it will happen sooner rather than later”. His proposal was seconded by Cllr Ann Norton (IND).
