Areas around the centre of Kildysart village are “badly in need of repair,” a local representative has flagged.

Inclusion of Kildysart in a restoration and surface dressing programme of works was requested by Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) and seconded by Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF).

One section of the R473 in the village is already earmarked for improvements in the three year roadworks programme for the West Clare Municipal District, senior executive engineer Alan Kennelly outlined. He said that overlay works would be included in the schedule of MD works in 2022 or 2023 but was hopeful it would be done this year.

“I was in Kildysart recently, I discovered that the area going through the village especially around the square was badly in need of repair,” Cllr Keating commented.

He acknowledged that it was “not a major job, it could wait until 2023 as the reply indicates but it needs to be done”. Keating then said it should get priority “rather than let it disimprove”. He said there was little point in thatching the roof in the middle of a storm, “I think it is important that we do it now and secure the area”.
