A BORDERING ROAD between two Municipal Districts “is like going from night into day,” according to an elected representative.

Calls for repair works by Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) along the Ralahine South Rd in Newmarket-on-Fergus were rejected at a recent sitting of the Killaloe Municipal District.

Acting senior executive engineer, Derek Troy flagged the L3168 was not included in this year’s schedule of municipal district works. He did commit to assessing it for consideration in the 2023 equivalent “based on priority and available funding”. Essential maintenance will be completed, he said.

Cllr O’Callaghan detailed that the road is near Drumline “and runs onto a border road between the Killaloe Municipal District and the Shannon Municipal District. He flagged that the side of the road in the Shannon MD has been improved in recent months. “The bit that is left is in our area, it is a bit rough on our side, there are two different surfaces on the road so I feel we should include in roadworks schedule for this year”.

In response, the engineer confirmed that he had seen the surface. “The line across it is like going from night into day,” O’Callaghan then remarked. The motion was seconded by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG).
