Two Independent candidates have entered the race for May’s local elections in the Ennis Municipal District.

Owner of Enzo’s Fast Foods, Alfonso D’Auria will make his first foray into politics running as an Independent. The Ennis native who has served as Chairperson of the Clare Schoolboys/Schoolgirls Soccer League (CSSL) views himself as “an alternative candidate” and is keen to be the voice of soletraders if successful.

Kilnamona’s Frank Cullinan has also added his name to the ballot paper and has the backing of outgoing councillor James Breen who he describes as “a great friend”. Cullinan has been a constant canvasser for Breen down through the years and has stated he won’t make promises he can’t keep, the porter at King John’s Castle has pinpointed Ennis General Hospital as the key issue within the District.

Both additions were first announced in The Clare Echo which featured a 24 page local election supplement and was released on Thursday.
