A SHARPER and livelier Sixmilebridge were deserving winners over Feakle in the fourth round of the willwego.com Clare Cup played on Tuesday evening.

Sixmilebridge 3-18
Feakle 2-13
Venue: O’Garney Park, Sixmilebridge

On a cold and wet evening, the home side dominated the opening half and they had built up an eight point lead by half time.

Players had to contend with the worst of the weather in the opening half and a very heavy shower shortly before half time made matters really difficult.

The winners had 0-4 on the board after as many minutes before the visitors opened their account through Shane McGrath.

By the end of the opening quarter it was 0-10 to 0-4 in Sixmilebridge’s favour and while Feakle narrowed the gap to four soon after, the home side struck for a Paul Corry goal and followed with two quick points to push further ahead. It was 1-12 to 0-7 when the half time whistle sounded.

Two Shane McGrath points in as many minutes at the start of the second half gave hope to Feakle but Paul Corry pounced for his second goal when Adam Murray’s effort was stopped on the line.

The winners then added 1-4 without reply, the third goal coming from Brian Corry, Paul’s older brother, and the home side led 3-16 to 0-10 with ten minutes remaining.

Changes to the Feakle line up, both positional and in personnel, brought about an improvement and two goals in the space of a couple of minutes from Oisin Donnellan, now operating in the full forward line, gave their followers hope.

Indeed they were unlucky not to have had a third goal as the ‘Bridge defence scrambled the ball to safety off he goal line before finishing with a brace of Alex Moey points to seal a merited win.

Conor Deasy, Leon Kelly, Alex Morey and the Corry brothers did well for the winners while Eoin Tuohy, Ronan O’Connor, Shane McGrath and Oisin Donnellan worked hard for Feakle
