Frustration is growing among residents of Corrovorrin on when traffic safety measures will be introduced.

Such is the feeling of discontent on repeated calls for traffic calming for residents at Corrovorrin and Kevin Barry Avenue that Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) has had to avoid travelling to the local shop.

Speaking on Tuesday, Cllr Flynn admitted “the residents of Corrovorin are getting very frustrated with me, they are wondering when the work will be done”. He told Tuesday’s meeting of the Ennis Municipal District that it had been hoped works would be completed during the summer season but the final design had yet to be approved which delayed works that are now likely not to begin until the autumn or winter.

Residents in the area are getting older and finding it more difficult to use the road as drivers and pedestrians, Flynn added. “I’m afraid to call to the local shop because residents are asking when will it be done”.

In a proposal before the meeting, Cllr Flynn cited the 15,000 vehicles per day that traverse on the Tulla Rd and appealed for additional traffic calming measures east and west of the railway bridge at the Lifford Rd and New Rd junctions.

Senior executive officer, Eamon O’Dea confirmed that Flynn’s motion had been forwarded to the road design section for consideration in the detailed design of the low cost safety scheme at Corrovorin Junction.

“Residents in Corrovorrin and Kevin Barry Avenue are totally frustrated,” Cllr Pat Daly (FF) remarked as he sought further detail.

O’Dea responded by advising that a draft drawing was with the TII and the project will not proceed until that is returned. He confirmed that a layout proposal is ready.
