TWO people have been hospitalised one with serious life-threatening injuries after a collision between a car and a horse in Ennis in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

An Garda Síochána are continuing their investigation in the road traffic collision and are appealing for witnesses who may have information to come forward.

Shortly after 3am on Tuesday morning, a car and a horse collided on the N85 between the Rocky Road roundabout and the Inch/Kilmaley roundabout according to reports.

Both occupants of the vehicle are aged in their forties. The woman was brought by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick (UHL), she is understood to have sustained life-threatening injuries. The male driver was transferred to UHL for treatment but his injuries are not as serious.

Traffic diversions were in place across Tuesday morning and afternoon to allow for a technical examination of the route.

Gardaí are appealing to any road users who may have camera footage including dash-cam footage and were travelling on the N85 near Cahercalla More, between 2:45am and 3:15am overnight to make this footage available.
