CLONLARA justified favouritism when accounting for St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield but they were made battle all the way.

A draw would not have flattered St Joseph’s but credit must go to Clonlara for their refusal to accept anything less than a win.
As four minutes of ‘added time’ were signalled the winners went one ahead when Michael O’Loughlin converted a 25m free and they added three in the added time to secure victory with a flattering four point margin.
That both sides were chasing a win was evident from the throw in as every ball was contested with fierce commitment on the part of the players.
From the off it was clear that neither side were prepared to give an inch and the contest flared up as early as the seventh minute as players clashed on the field while some members of both managements clashed on the sideline.
Clonlara’s David Fitzgerald was shown the first yellow card of the evening following a clash with Eoin ‘Ogie’ Fanning. Just over a minute after play had resumed following this incident a clash between John Conlon and Fionn Kelleher led to a lot of players from both sides getting involved. Following consultation with his officials referee Kevin Corry issued a yellow card to Kelleher.
Play resumed and Clonlara landed four points in quick succession but Doora/Barefield hit back and did likewise and they led 0-6 to 0-5 after twenty one minutes.
Clonlara responded with another four in a row and when the half time whistle sounded they were two in front, 0-10 to 0-8.
St. Joseph’s started the second half in determined fashion and they landed 0-4 without reply in the space of five minutes.
Points from Dylan McMahon and Michael Collins had the winners back on level terms and from here to the finish the sides traded scores and exchanged the lead.
Padraic O’Donovan’s pointed free for the Doora/Barefield side a minute from the end of normal time levelled matters for the twelfth time and everything pointed to a share of the spoils.
Clonlara’s greater experience, however proved decisive and they landed the last four scores through Micheal O’Lughlin, substitute Bryan McLeish and the Galvin brothers Ian and team captain Colm to take home the points
Dylan McMahon, Aidan Moriarty, David Fitzgerald and John Conlon played leading roles for the winners on an evening when Paddy Nagle, Adam Mungovan, Graham Ball, and Thomas O’Connor were to the fore for Doora/Barefield.
