CAHERHURLEY Organic Nursery in Bodyke has fully reopened to the public with opening hours of 9am to 5pm seven days a week.
After a turbulent time for Gert, the owner, his health issues are resolving and Caherhurley is back on its feet again.
The nursey has improved, thanks to the help of volunteers, trainees and students of horticultural colleges.
Caherhurley Nursery is a place where gardeners love to go for their plants, because it’s exceptional in many ways: It’s a nursery where plants are slowly grown outside on a windy hillside, without artificial fertilisers to ensure that they are hardy and they can survive the challenging, harsh Irish climate.
Once they grow there, they will survive anywhere. Also, the plants are certified organic, that’s the only guarantee that no bee-killing chemicals were used.
A wide range of unusual herbaceous hardy perennials are grown, offering something else then what’s generally available.
Plants are propagated by the growers themselves and produced in the nursery, nothing is bought in. In this respect, Caherhurley Nursery is unique because most Irish nurseries grow plants that are imported as young plants from abroad.
According to the team at Caherhurley, “People find it refreshing to buy from a nursery where they can get expert advise on the choices of their plants and it’s great to see how they are propagated and grown”.
