Clare intermediate ladies football champions Burren Gaels put up a great display against favourites Valley Rovers from Cork in the Munster championship quarter final on Saturday but, in the end the visitors prevailed by three points.

Valley Rovers settled quickly and raced into a four point lead as they hit the first four scores before Sally King opened the home side’s account.

As the game progressed the Clare champions grew in confidence and points from Teresa Collins, Emma Healy and a brace from Lizzy Roche levelled the tie at 0-5 each which was the position at half time.

Top scorer Lizzy Roche had the opening score of the second half which gave Burren Gaels the lead for the first time. The visitors hit back with a brace but Burren did likewise and two more from Lizzy Roche had the Clare side ahead by the minimum margin at the second water break.

Ten minutes from time Valley Rovers got through for what proved to be the crucial score, the game’s only goal.
