ST BRECKAN’s and Clondegad recorded their first wins in the willwego.com Garry Cup.

There were two games in the Garry Cup (division 2 football) on Saturday when St. Breckans put down a marker that they are keen to return to the top division while Clondegad recovered from their first round loss to account for Doonbeg in the only second round tie played this week.

St. Breckan’s were well on their way to the points in this first round tie, postponed from the previous week due to the death of Eileen O’Loughlin, mother of club chairman Paul, at the half way mark when they led 2-10 to 0-1, Kilmihil’s only score of the half coming from Martin O’Leary.

The Lisdoonvarna outfit dominated throughout the field and they continued to dominate after the break.

Jamie Stack top scored for the winners with 2-8 to his credit. Substitute Oisin O’Loughlin scored two goals while the other goalscorers were Cathal Morgan and Conor Shannon.

Dan Keating was the Kilmihil goalscorer on a day when they struggled to cope with the pace and overall movement of the home side.

Clondegad bounce back to down Doonbeg

Disappointed with their opening round loss to Naomh Eoin a week earlier, Clondegad bounced back with this merited victory over first round winners Doonbeg at the latters’s venue on Saturday evening.

James Murrihy’s squad put down a marker in the opening half at the end of which they were 1-9 to 0-5 in front.

They started well with a point from Fiachra Kirby followed by a two pointer from Eoin Glynn.

A good move ended with Evan Flynn finding the net and the winners were 1-6 to 0-1 in front at the end of the opening quarter.

Doonbeg hit back and landed the next four scores but Clondegad finished with a point from Fiachra Kirby and a two pointer from Eoin Kennedy.

Doonbeg did better in the second half but Cian Kirby’s goal ensured victory for the visitors.

Wolfe Tones win in O’Gorman Cup

Round 2 in the O’Gorman Cup was completed on Friday evening when Wolfe Tones accounted for St Joseph’s Miltown on a final scoreline of 3-14 to 3-9.

Having lost their opening round tie to Kildysart, this win keep the Shannon club in the hunt for a place in the latter stage of the competition.

Craig Riordan top scored for the Shannon side with 2-4 while Cody Waller hit 1-1 with Aaron Kelly chipping in with 0-6.
