Audrey wins All-Ireland’s captains prize winners competition

LADY VICE captain of Ennis Golf Club, Audrey McEnery won the ladies All-Ireland captains prize winners competition at Roscrea on Saturday. She returned an impressive stableford score of 42 points to take the honours.

The senior ladies 12 hole outing to Kilrush was won by Margaret Flanagan, Maeve O’Grady and Margaret Mcenery wth 35.35.

In second place with 36.8 were Brid Cunningham, Therese Lillis, Anne McMahon and Eileen Daly.

Third place was filled by Claire Pyne, Eileen Corry and Pat Lacey with 38.25 followed in fourth by Anne Kelly, Marie Connolly, Kathleen Frehill and Ada McMahon with 38.94. fifth place was filled by Mary McMahon, Geraldine O’Mahoney and Mary Kearns with 39.1.

The Cummins Car Centre sponsored ladies greensomes competition was won by Patricia Moroney and Joan Murphy with 44 points and they had three to spare over Mary Nagle and Marian Irwin while third place was filled by Mary Lenhan and Anna Marie Darmody with 38 points.

The ladies 9 hole stableford competition was won by Caroline Magee (22) with 21 points and the divisional winners were Flor Coffey (12) with 20 points, Mary Gardner (18) with 18 points and Dympna Hehir (22) with 18 points.

The senior men’s competition for the John Doohan trophy was won by Micheal Meagher, Noel Pyne, Michael Clancy and Joe O’Brien with 74 points.They won by three from Richard O’Connell, Tom Gallery, Tim Kelly and Pat Garry with third place filled by Pat G McInerney, Noel Connellan, Jimmy Kearns and Paul Kenny with 70 points.

Fourth place was filled by Ollie Kenneally, Declan Hanley and Tony Lawlor with 69 followed by Tony McInerney, Paul Mockler, Damon Murphy and Pat Rutherford with 68.

In sixth spot with 67 points were Pat Murphy, Sean Ryan, Matt Flynn and Gerry Kelly followed by Peter Quinn, Tom Fox, Michael Ball and Michael Neylon with 67 while eighth place went to Eamonn Kelly, Liam Barry, John Neylon, and Pauric Larkin , also with 67 points.

Friday’s open singles was won by Sean J. Finnerty (33) from Millicent Glf club with42 points. He had one to spare over Derek Ramsey (9) from Newbridge golf club while the gross was won by Dylan O’Mahony from Tralee with 35 points.

John A. Murphy won the Abbey trophy matchplay beating Mark O’Brien in the final. The Koley cup was won by Michael Irwin with Mark O’Brien filling the runners up spot.

Damian Pilkington captured the Knox cup, defeating Senan Ryan in the final.

The Cyril Walsh competition was won by Ollie O’Loughlin and Michael Sullivan and they defeated Michael Irwin and Michael O’Grady in the final.

Lahinch Golf Club:

The Lahinch ladies won the Women’s International team challenge at Walton Heath GC last week. This is the second time the club has won this annual tournament.

The team comprised Orla Barry and Rhona Carmody (Gross), Fiona McCarthy and Debbie Kelly (Nett), Jane Ryder and Aedin McCarthy (Captain’s picks) and alternate Deirdre McDermott.

Woodstock Golf Club:

Last week’s mixed foursomes at Woodstock was won by Noel Moloney, Michael Coughlan and Robert Keogh with 20.4 from Joe Barry, Brian Kilker, Anne Kilker and Eilis Neville with 22.5. In third place, also with 22.5 were Tony Neville, Mary Holland and Vincent McInerney.

The final Thursday night mixed for this season will take place on this Thursday evening and will be followed by all outstanding presentations in Hotel Woodstock.

Twenty two played in the AMR open singles last week was won by Shaun Murphy (21) with 38 points from Robert Dunne (23) also with 38 points. Frank Landy was a winner in the 2’s competition at the 11th hole.

The weekend competition was the Sweet’n’Green September Medal which was won by Brendan Hennessy (16) with 62 while the gross was won by Alan Markham (3) with 70.

Category 1 (+ to 10) was won by Matty Nugent (7) with 72 from Ross Darmody (3) with 73.

Mark Hogan (13) with 69 won category 2 from Cathal O’Sullivan (11) with 70 while the category 3 winner was Tom O’Donohue (20) with 76.
A total of 68 played.

In the stroke play competition for those with handicaps of 16 and over twenty one played and this was won by Eugene Conroy (29) with 66
Winners in the 2’s competition were Joe Green (8th) and Cathal Nagle (6th).

The weekly singles continues on this Thursday while the weekend competition will be a club singles in the Breen Building Design Ltd Order of Merit). This will be the second last event in the order of merit competition.

Shannon Golf Club:

In the men’s green tee challenge, Christopher Downes (12) captured the honours with 38 points. He won on a countback from Darren Griffin (10) with third place filled by Vincent O’Brien who also scored 38 points. Edward Hckey (+1) won the gross with 34 points.

The weekend’s team of four competition was won by Michael McInerney (17), Jim Fitzgerald (17), Noel Morgan (19) and Kieran Considine (12) with 67 points.

Wednesday’s men’s open singles was won by Niall Murphy (19) with 41 points from Thomas McMahon (15) with 40 points. In third place with 37 points was Luach DeLoughry (19) while the gross was won by John Dolan (+2) with 37 points.

Michael McInerney (10) was last week’s 9 hole competition winner with 19 points.

East Clare Golf Club:

Last Wednesday’s ladies competition was won by Ursula Hogan Connie Mc|Kenna, Marie A Kelly and Pauline Nugent from Breda Reid, Mary Farrell .and Brid Hayes with third place filled by Noreen Skehan, Kay Grimes, Liz McMahon and Mary Hogan.

The weekly senior men’s competition was won by Tom Larkin, Steve Syms and John Collins with 77 points from Mike Noonan, Jerry O’Brien and Jonathan Walsh with 71 with third spot filled by Ger Hoey, Pat Duggan and Denis Corcoran with 71.

Dromoland Golf Club:

Shane Collins won the men’s 18 hole stroke competition at Dromoland with 67 and he won on a countback from Frank Melody. In third place on 68 was Joe Walsh while Greg Delahunt won the category for those with handicaps of 20 and over with 69. Enda Henneghan won the gross with 70.

The 9 hole competition was won by Edward Egan with 23 points from Neil Slattery with 21 with third place filled by Philip Hehir with 19 points.

The P and M sponsored ladies 18 hole stroke competition was won by Leslie O’Flynn with 71 from Dorothy Brennan with 74 while the gross was won by Joan Ryan.

Ann Moloney won the ladies 9 hole competition with 18 points from Frances Bergin with 17 points.

Kilrush Golf Club:

The ladies competition at Kilrush last week was the Wild Atlantic Opticians singles stableford event which was won by Anna Moody (21) with 31 points.

The category winners were Mary Lyons (19) with 24 points, Mary Young (27) with 21 points and Joanne Haffey (46) with 28 points.

Gort Golf Club:

The men’s competition at Gort at the weekend was for the Josie McInerney shield, an 18 hole singles stableford event sponsored by the McInerney family.

The winner was Kieran Reidy (21) with 45 points while the category winners were Alan Minogue (12) with 41 points, John Dempsey (20) with 40 points and Chris Fahy (25) with 41 points. The gross was won by Joe Moran (2) with 33 points.

Friday’s open singles was won by Gabriel Glynn (19) with 42 points
with the gross won by Connor Shields (7) with 30 points.

Sixmilebridge Golf Society:

Sixmilebridge golf society’s final outing of the season took place on Saturday last to Roscrea.

In very good weather conditions Daire Bucke emerged as the winner from John Collins with Eamon Healy in third place followed by David Purcell.

The nines were won by Pat Kearney and Dave Watson. Ed Crowe won the par 3’s while Dave Watson was confirmed as winner of the golfer of the year title.
