CONTRACTS are due to be exchanged this month on a new use for what was formerly the Garda Station in Lissycasey.

Representatives for the Minister of the Office of Public Work have confirmed that issues pertaining to the future lease of the property for community use are almost finalised. The title of the property had to be resolved with the matter before the courts last year.

In an update to Clare TD, Joe Carey (FG), the representatives from the Minister’s office said that agreement has been reached from the owner to see the ‘fee simple’ to the Commissioners of Public Works per Landlord and Tenant Act 1967. The fee simple estate equates to full ownership.

Speaking to The Clare Echo, Deputy Carey acknowledged that the transfer of the building to community use had been stalled due to legal issues. “On conclusion of these legal matters, the Minister advises me that a new lease can then be drawn-up between the OPW and Clare County Council who will co-ordinate its use thereby enabling local community groups in Lissycasey to avail of the premise. This is really positive news for the community of Lissycasey and I want to express my thanks to Minister Patrick O’Donovan for his engagement and work in advancing a solution to this matter”.
