SAFER access to Kilmihilโs People Park needs to be enabled, elected representatives have stated.
Construction of a pedestrian crossing โto enable safe accessโ to Kilmihilโs People Park was requested by Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) at a meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.
Senior executive engineer, Alan Kennelly explained that a controlled pedestrian crossing would need to be assessed by the road design section of Clare County Council where pedestrian desire lines, traffic volumes and speeds would be examined.
An alternative solution was put forward by Kennelly, โwe could drop the kerbs and install tactile paving at the proposed crossing point. This would create a more informal courtesy crossing. Such a courtesy crossing could be installed in the short term. Should pedestrians continue to have difficulty crossing the road at this location a more formal controlled crossing could then be assessedโ.
Users continue to have difficulty crossing the road, Cllr Lynch highlighted while he welcomed the alternative as โa good solution to try resolve it for the time beingโ.
Activity levels at Kilmihil Peopleโs Park will continue to grow with St Patโs AFC carrying out work to an astro-turf development, Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) commented.
