TONY Kelly is aiming to be back in action by Spring time as he recovers from a recent ankle operation.

Kelly missed out on Ballyea’s Clare SHC final glory earlier this month, while he was absent from playing duties he took on a coaching role with their senior side having an active involvement with Robbie Hogan’s set-up.

In the middle of October, the St Flannan’s College school teacher underwent surgery on a recurring ankle issue with four months the likely timeframe that he would be out of action for subsequent to this.

Speaking to Off The Ball, the All Star hurler outlined that this target remains accurate and he’s hopeful to be back in action during Clare’s Allianz National Hurling League campaign. “I’m halfway through the recovery period in terms of being off the feet, I’m maybe a couple of months away from getting back on the pitch and doing a bit of running or jogging.

“I think the League is starting in February, I probably won’t make the League but the end of February or the start of March is my return date hopefully. We’ll see how things are going, things are going well enough at the minute so we’ll hopefully keep up that progress and see where I am in the New Year”.
