Bollards are to be introduced at a busy Shannon junction โto improve safety for cyclistsโ.
An appeal to make the road junction linking Cronan, Inis Ealga and Rineanna View โsaferโ was issued by Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) before the Shannon Municipal District. โThis is an extremely busy junction to navigate and needs action taken,โ she stated. Her proposal was seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).
Tom Mellett, senior executive engineer confirmed that bollards were set to be introduced at the location โto improve safety for cyclists. This will tighten the junction slowing vehicle movements and so improving the overall safety of all road users at this junctionโ.
Funding has been granted for a mobility survey in Shannon Town under the National Transport Agency with an assessment of the junction to be completed as part of this.
โLong before I took over, this junction was always an issue and people always complained about it,โ Cllr McGettigan, who was co-opted to Clare County Council in January of last year, commented. โItโs a wonder why there hasnโt been a serious accident,โ she added.
