Eighteen medals made their way back to Clare following tAldi Community Games National Athletics and Cycling on Grass Finals which took place in IT Carlow Sport’s Campus on Saturday. 
400 children from around Ireland took part in the National Athletics and Cycling on Grass Finals in IT Carlow Sport’s Campus on Saturday 25th September with special guests; Olympian Marcus Lawler and European Medallists Molly Scott and Sarah Quinn cheering them on.

Hosted by IT Carlow and supported by Carlow County Council, 42 Athletics and Cycling Events took place in pods throughout the day to ensure that the safety of the participants, volunteers and families was the main priority. The event was live-streamed on YouTube.

Seadna Ryan of Clooney/Quin and Nicole Griffin took gold in the U10 200m with Lisdoonvarna’s Caoimhe Byrne O’Connell taking the U16 equivalent. Doonbeg took gold while Lisdoonvarna had to settle for silver in the Boys U16 1500m with Gerard Dunne first home followed by Jack Rush.

Ballynacally/Lissycasey welcomed home silver medals thanks to Sean Hick and Daire Culligan finishing in second place in the U8 60m and U16 200m respectively. Molly Purcell went the distance in the U14 Long Puc and brought a silver medal back to Sixmilebridge while Thomas O’Connor of Doora/Barefield claimed second place in the U14 Long Jump as did Kilrush’s Gemma Galvin in the U16 1500m.

Newmarket-on-Fergus’ Evan Crimmins scooped bronze in the U14 Shot Putt as did Leah Leahy of Ballynacally/Lissycasey in the female equivalent while Leah Titley of Clooney/Quin also finished third in the U12 cycling on grass. Ennis St John’s had reason to celebrate with both Promise Jolaoshu (U14 100m) and Finn Duignan (U14 800m) winning bronze medals. Michael Kelly of Ballynacally/Lissycasey finished third in the U16 100m to add to Clare’s medal tally.

Fourth place was secured by Sophie Harrison of Clooney/Quin in the U10 100m while fresh from winning silverware with the Kilmaley U13 hurlers, Seanie Connellan representing the Inch/Kilmaley and Connolly club claimed fourth spot in the U12 Long Puc.
