Scenes at the Junior B football final between Parteen and Kilrush Shamrocks have been labelled as ‘disturbing and shocking’.

Clare GAA secretary, Pat Fitzgerald read a letter to club delegates at Tuesday evening’s meeting of the County Board which was received by a spectator of Sunday’s Junior B football final between Kilrush Shamrocks and Parteen

In correspondence to Clare GAA, the writer said he was “disturbed and shocked with what I saw. Supporters were along the sideline and children were sitting on the white line. The game should not have been played on that field”. The writer was “disappointed most of all with the amount of alcohol sold to supporters who were walking on the field with drink and children watched this”.

The individual stated they would never again support Clare GAA if a repeat instance occurred.

Fitzgerald told delegates he spoke with the club of the person who wrote the letter. “I have been reliably informed that this person will not let go,” he stated. The secretary added that this was just one of a number of letters and e-mails that he had received recently.

“This has to be taken seriously,” Cooraclare’s P.J. McGuane stressed. “Both the clubs in the final and the host club have a lot to answer for. One can never take anything for granted at any game. It has to be investigated and everybody has to stand up”.

No representative from Parteen, Kilrush Shamrocks or the host club Éire Óg spoke on the matter during the meeting.
