Public relations officer with Clare GAA, Michael O’Connor has informed clubs he is temporarily stepping away from the position.

On Friday evening, the Crusheen man informed clubs he was taking time out from the role as PRO of the County Board. He is one of the most prominent members of the team involved with Clare GAA TV and is also responsible for producing match programmes for the adult championships.

“Due to recent pronouncements made to me regarding the functionality of the role for which I am selected each year as a volunteer please note I will be taking time out from Sunday 19th September to reflect, review, reassess and comprehend the value of my commitment to the role,” he outlined.

Reasons for the NUIG Gaelic Games Officer’s decision to question his commitment to the position have not been confirmed with only speculation circulating on the “recent pronouncements”. He also serves as Chairperson of his local GAA club in Crusheen.

Last November, Michael was one of four candidates nominated to contest the vacant post of Chairman of Clare GAA but he withdrew from the race and cited his Crusheen role coupled with studies in health promotion.

Also at this time, he stressed the need for Clare GAA to have “a far greater media presence” online while also calling for the County Board to push its fundraising efforts and stated, “I am prepared to step up to the mark on this agenda”. Cratloe’s Jack Chaplin defeated ex Vice Chairman, PJ McGuane of Cooraclara via a vote at Convention to become Chairman.
