Funding is to be sought next year to continue the footpath from the bottom of Raheen Hill into Tuamgraney.

No funding currently exists for the request tabled by Cllr Pat Burke (FG) at a recent sitting of the Killaloe Municipal District.

Senior executive engineer, Niamh Madden said the Killaloe MD would “endeavour to identify the appropriate funding stream and make an application” so that the project could be financed in 2022.

Pedestrians can walk safely from Killaloe to the outskirts of Tuamgraney as a result of the trail put in place by Clare County Council, Cllr Burke stated. “We’re all aware of the popularity of outdoor activity and walking, people are working from home and getting a walk in at lunchtime. There’s people walking the path at any time of the day”.

Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe MD, Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) noted that it was raised at the previous Killaloe MD meeting, “Morgan said all options would be explored to complete the footpath. The commitment is that funding will be got”.

Acting senior executive officer, Morgan Lahiffe acknowledged that it was an ambition to extend the footpath. “There are many different funding opportunities and challenges to deliver everything. We will have to look at all the options available to us”.
