Attempts to extend the sewer from a Roslevan estate to the main Tulla Rd have been described as “a never-ending saga”.

Consideration to the extension of the sewer from the Ros Leamháin estate opposite Fahy Hall in Roslevan to the main Tulla Rd sewer via Aughvaddy Bridge was sought by Cllr Pat Daly (FF) at a recent sitting of the Ennis Municipal District.

In a written response, Cyril Feeney a senior engineer with the local authority clarified, “Clare County Council are no longer a Water Services Authority following the establishment of Irish Water in 2013. The local authority have no longer a legislative basis or powers to provide municipal water/wastewater services infrastructure. That function resides solely now with Irish Water”. He said the request would be forwarded to Irish Water.

“There are houses on the main Tulla Rd in Ennis waiting over 20 years to tap into the sewer,” Cllr Daly lamented. He was adamant the time had come to make the connection. “Septic tanks are all over the place,” he said of conditions in the estate. “It is not good enough to be waiting 20 years for it, it can be done”.

Ennis MD should communicate directly with Irish Water on the subject, Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) stated. He said it was “not acceptable” to have a stretch of houses in an urban area using septic tanks. Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) in adding her support labelled the situation as “a never-ending saga”.
