A new campaign with the public appointments service (PAS) is to be launched to find the new chairperson of Shannon Group.

Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan (GP) has confirmed that the post is to be re-advertised. In February, the Green Party leader was forced to scrap the planned appointment of Aaron Forde, 18 hours after announcing him as Rose Hynes’ successor.

Agreement has been reached to launch a new campaign with the Public Appointments Service (PAS) and that it be concluded “as expeditiously as possible”. Department officials are currently engaging with PAS on progressing the new campaign with clarity on a proposed timeline expected “in the very near future” according to the Minister.

Speaking to The Clare Echo, Deputy Joe Carey (FG) stressed the importance of finding the right person to chair Shannon Group. “Everyone in the Mid-West understands the significance of Shannon Group as an economic driver in the region. I am glad that progress is being made with regard to the appointment of a new Shannon Group chairperson”.

Deputy Carey added, “The role is one of the most important posts in the region and it is vital that the process finds the right person on this occasion”.
